Weekend Beer Buzz 01/20/2016

It’s been a fun week around here. Hill Farmstead showed up, Melvin’s not far behind and the wallet continues to get drained with great bottle releases, new tappings and other beer shenanigans.

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

Jake’s Brew Bar has two killer tappings set for Thursday afternoon. Look for Perennial’s Abraxas on draft, along with Hill Farmstead’s Dorothy. We broke the news on Hill Farmstead’s arrival earlier this week, which is something we’re extremely excited about. Get excited with us! And get to Jake’s for this awesome duo on Thursday. 4 PM start. Friday, January 22nd, 2016

  • Menu Update, Comrade Brewing, Denver, CO, Noon

Comrade Brewing will tap an American Stout on Friday at Noon. This baby’s a 6.9% ABV, roasty, hop-forward offering, brewed with El Dorado, Azacca, 06277 and 07270. Get on it. Comrade Brewing is located at: 7667 E Iliff Ave, Suite F, Denver, CO 80231.

Copper Kettle will release a Rye IPA on Friday at Noon. This one’s got citrus on the nose with a spicy mouthfeel. Copper Kettle Brewing is located at: 1338 S Valentia St #101, Denver, CO 80247.

  • Bottle Release / Menu Update, Mockery Brewing, Denver, CO, 2 PM

Mockery’s got both a bottle release and a new tapping set for Friday. Look for bombers of Wardrobe Malfunction, a Tart Cherry Strong Ale, brewed in collaboration with Baere Brewing and aged in Cabernet Franc Barrels from The Infinite Monkey Theorem. Bombers will be available for $16 / each.

In addition, they’ll tap Pretty Rye For A White Guy, a Caraway Spiced Rye. Head over and get your growler filled for Sunday’s big game. Mockery Brewing is located at: 3501 Delgany St, Denver, CO.

This week, Dry Dock’s tapping Kentucky Boulevardier. For this creative firkin, they added special spices to their tasty Kentucky Common to “mimic the flavors of Campari and Vermouth”. The Denver Brew Fest returns to Mile High Station this weekend, bringing in more than 40 breweries each night. Look for Odell, Boulevard, Upslope, Sanitas, Firestone Walker, Stone, Ratio and many more. Grab the full list and ticket info HERE. Tickets start at just $35. Saturday, January 23rd, 2016

Powder Keg will release their latest sour offering on Saturday at Noon. Head over to pick up your bottles of Palisade Reunion. This one’s a revamped version of last year’s Pride of Palisade release, featuring more peaches, new Brett cultures and a second Lacto source. All of that adds up to one sweet, juicy, funky brew. 750 mL bottles will be sold for $16 / each, limit of 6 / person.

They’ll also offer pours of Palisade Reunion, plus other special tappings. Look for:

Brewer’s Playground Blend: 40% 16 month old spontaneous golden ale, 30% remix one tart saison, 30% brett pale ale dry hopped with Citra and Galaxy.

Dry Dock’s celebrating 3 years of canned beer. On Saturday, head up to Dry Dock – North for their annual CANniversary, complete with the debut of Hopricot 12-packs, live music, food trucks, VIP Tours and the chance to win FREE BEER FOR A YEAR!!! Wat!?!?

Ratio Beerworks will release a new batch of One Great City!, their Belgian-style Quadrupel, packed with notes of figs, raisins and prunes. Ratio Beerworks is located at: 2920 Larimer St, Denver, CO.

Rockyard Brewing will release their new BA Imperial Stout on Saturday at 1 PM. Come out to try the new brew, purchase bottles to-go and tour the brewery.

Sanitas Brewing has teamed up with Cured Cheese & Wine Shop for a special night of exclusive beer tastings, pulled straight from the barrel by the Sanitas brewers and paired with bites from Cured. They’ll have 4 barrels to try: Raspberry Deluge, Rum Barrel Barleywine, Bourbon Barrel IPA, and Galaxy Dry-Hopped Brett Saison.

Tickets are $65, which covers four 10 oz. pours, small bites from Cured. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the Sanitas brewers, ask questions, sample never before released beers and learn about their barrel-aging techniques. Beer Hunter’s Report

  • The exciting news of the week is the arrival of Hill Farmstead. Note that HF is hitting in kegs only, so don’t go looking for it in stores right now.
  • Deschutes Abyss Rye Whiskey variant is now hitting. omg, so .rar. /sarcasm
  • Stone Enjoy By 2.14.16 Unfiltered and Black started hitting late last week and continued to hit this week.
  • Dry Dock Cascara Imperial Stout is now hitting shelves.
  • Look for Omnipollo Ras Soft Citra IPA and Omnipollo/Tired Hands Shilkmake IPA.
  • Westbrook Bourbon Barrel-Aged Oud Bruin, slam! Also look for all sorts of Westbrook cans.
  • Stillwater/Against The Grain Give-Way, a session ale with a very interesting label.
  • The future holds (and we won’t mention these again until they get more traction):
    • Melvin (2×4 Day is coming! Stay tuned, this is definitely happening…)
